Bare.Bold&Beautiful with Shakia Seabrook
Discover your natural beauty
The Inspiration by Loretta Radio Show welcomes Shakia Seabrook who is the founder of Bare.Bold&Beautiful organization which was founded in March 2014. Shakia is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University where she earned her B.S.W in May 2011, then went on to earn her M.S.W. from Fordham University in May 2012. She currently works as a Domestic Violence Advocate, she balances her time presenting to various populations and hosting community events on behalf of her Bare.Bold&Beautiful organization.
Shakia and a friend has traveled across country to film a documentary. They set out on a mission to promote, inspire and step in to a definition of beauty that is not dependent on exterior adornments. They abstained form jewelry, makeup and fancy clothing for 3 weeks and 3 days and cut off their hair. The two stopped strangers in various cities challenging them to define beauty. They also conducted interviews and filmed specific women who once did not see themselves as beautiful because of their visible scars, vitilligo, albinism, Bell's palsy, cleft lip and burn scars, but are now able to see their beauty.
Shakia came to realize that social work is not meant to fit into a box and has found a way to incorporate all that she loves to do: motivational speaking, uplifting others and traveling into what she believes is her own version of social work.
